Knee Chub and the President

Seattle has had a handful of dignitaries coming to visit lately and they have a tendency to throw a wrench in everyones commute if they are headed downtown. Since Obama is visiting this afternoon I had the option of working from home which I LOVE. I get to login earlier than usual and get a jump on my emails, hangout with some puppies who enjoy having an extra foot to lay on while I'm at the computer, and get a little more flexibility in my running schedule. I opted for 4 miles on the treadmill this morning since it was a little rainy (totally wussed out) and I have a longer run planned for my favorite running path tomorrow. I prefer to only drive to a running location when absolutely necessary and my neighborhood hills just were not calling my name, so I took advantage of some my headphones and some pre-made iTunes playlists and hopped on my machine.

I will be the first to admit I do not have good taste in music. I blame running for this since I just want something that is upbeat, poppy, and fast to help me get through any sort of speed work. Today I found this and the name just says it all. It helped me get through a couple unplanned 400s. I didn't realize I might actually like those, but seriously if you read enough other running blogs speed workouts are contagious. Also the 'mill made them pretty straightforward which I liked. Baby steps...

I also got an email this morning from ProCompression about a sale and almost broke down to buy something since you know, 50% off. Then I remembered I already have some sleeves, socks, and ankle socks from them that I don't wear enough to merit a new pair.  I threw on some shorts and my hot pink sleeves during my run to see if they made any difference and if for some reason I may actually need to take advantage of the wonders the email promised.

The funny thing is I think they actually helped even though I was definitely not expecting them too. I don't have any issues with my calves, knock on wood, but when I wear shorts I feel like my stride gets a bit wonky with all the knee-chub slapping and wind rushing through my leg hair. It's really a glorious sight. Wearing the sleeves helped things feel a little more tight (duh) and little less OOC. I still prefer capris or tights when running, but if I'm going to wear shorts this isn't a bad way to go. I still don't think I deserve a new pair just yet, but I'm glad I found a new gear combo that works.

Okay, back to real work and walking the dogs so they don't explode. And more coffee.
